Who was Gordon Moore?


Gordon Earle Moore was born on January 3, 1929, in San Francisco, California. He went on to complete his PhD in chemistry and physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 1954.


After a brief stint at the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, Moore joined Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory in 1956. There, he worked with a team of scientists and engineers to develop the first commercial silicon transistor, which revolutionized the electronics industry. In 1968, Moore and fellow Shockley alumnus Robert Noyce founded Intel Corporation, which would become one of the world's leading semiconductor companies.
